About this service
Accidents Happen.
We Help You Put Them Right.
Whether you grazed a piling or ran aground, an insurance claim starts with clear paperwork. We document the damage with photos and give you a detailed boat damage estimate to send to your insurer; the claim stays between you and your insurer.
Hidden Damage
A small crack in the gelcoat can hide delamination in the fiberglass underneath. Before any fiberglass boat repair, we tap-test the area to look for damage the eye can't see; structural damage is repaired by a boatyard.
Itemized Estimates
Our estimates are itemized by labor, parts, materials and outside work such as a haul-out or a boatyard, so you and your insurer can follow every line.
From Estimate to Repair
We don't just write the estimate; we do the work, at your boat or at our San Pedro shop, from gelcoat repair to prop shaft alignment. Structural hull damage goes to a boatyard we work with or refer you to, and its charge is listed on your estimate.
The Repair Path.
From initial impact to final finish.
Inspect
We inspect the hull, deck, drive, running gear and steering. Below the waterline the boat has to be hauled out (the yard's charge is listed on your estimate), and some damage only shows once parts are removed.
Document
We create a digital package with high-res photos, clearly marking damage zones, measuring delamination areas, and noting related mechanical issues.
Quote
We prepare a written, itemized estimate of parts, labor, haul-out fees and materials for you to send to your insurer. If hidden damage turns up, you get a revised estimate and we wait for your OK.
Restore
Once you approve the estimate, we schedule the repair and work to restore the boat to its pre-accident condition.
Clear Documentation.
Photos and notes that show the damage clearly.
Common Incidents.
Common incidents we repair, from docking impact to running aground damage, and the hull damage repair that follows.
Common Questions
What does the estimate cost?
The inspection and written estimate are charged at our labor rate of $150 an hour, plus the trip fee for work at your boat; a typical inspection takes 1-2 hours. You approve that cost before we start, whether or not we do the repair.
Who deals with the insurer?
You do. We document the damage with photos and give you a written estimate to send to your insurer. The claim stays between you and your insurer, and you can share our photos and estimate with any surveyor or adjuster they send.
Boat Repair Insurance: A Scope the Adjuster Can Follow
A boat repair insurance claim is easier to review when nothing is left out. We separate cosmetic gelcoat work from structural damage and from mechanical items such as prop shaft alignment after a grounding, so the adjuster can match every line of the estimate to the incident.
