Specialized Marine Services in Long Beach and Los Angeles
Some jobs call for brand-specific engine work or a less common skill. We handle both at your slip, dock or storage yard from Marina del Rey to Newport Beach, or at our San Pedro shop.
What the work covers
- Engine brands: MerCruiser and Mercury engine service, Volvo Penta IPS and sterndrive service, and Yamaha outboard service and repair.
- Handling and access: bow and stern thruster repair (installing a new tunnel thruster is hull work, which we refer to a boatyard), and hydraulic swim platform lift repair.
- Woodwork: marine joinery and custom cabinetry, companionway stairs and custom treads, and marine decking.
- Removal: removal and disposal of a boat that is beyond repair or no longer wanted.
We also work on Indmar, Yanmar and Cummins engines.
When to call
- Your MerCruiser, Mercury, Volvo Penta or Yamaha engine is due for service or shows a fault
- The thruster runs weakly, makes new noises or does not respond
- The swim platform lift moves slowly, leaks fluid or will not hold its position
- Cabinets, stairs or deck surfaces are worn, loose or damaged
- A boat cannot be saved and needs to be removed
Questions about specialized services
Why does a bow thruster lose power?
Common causes include low battery voltage, corroded connections, growth in the thruster tunnel and a damaged thruster propeller. We quote any repair we find during a check before any work is done.
What makes a swim platform lift drift down?
On hydraulic lifts, worn seals, leaking hoses or fittings and low fluid are common causes. Have a lift that drifts or leaks looked at before it carries a tender or personal watercraft again.
Book a visit: submit a ticket with the boat, where it is kept and what you are seeing, or call (562) 542-7296.

#2139 Common question asks
When should I consider vessel disposal instead of repair?
-

Disposal usually makes sense when repairs would cost more than the boat is worth, the hull has serious structural damage, or the boat has become a safety or environmental risk. We can give you a written repair estimate to compare, and an accredited marine surveyor can tell you what the boat is worth.

-

#2137 Common question asks
Can a boat go to a repair shop instead of disposal?
-

Yes. If the boat may be worth repairing, we can bring it to our San Pedro shop for an inspection and a written repair estimate instead. Hull and structural damage is referred to a boatyard.

-

#2135 Common question asks
Can you help if my insurer is involved?
-

Yes. We document the boat with photos and give you a written estimate for the removal to send to your insurer. The claim stays between you and your insurer.
-
-

#2133 Common question asks
Do you handle the paperwork for boat disposal?
-

Yes. We handle the DMV paperwork to report the boat as junked, give you copies for your records and agree access and timing with the marina. Also tell your county assessor the boat is gone, and if the boat is not yours, check with the DMV or an attorney first.

-

#2131 Common question asks
Is vessel disposal compliant with environmental regulations?
-

Fuel and oil are drained and the batteries removed before the boat is moved, and they go to a waste hauler or recycling facility that accepts them. The hull then goes to a recycling or disposal facility that takes boats.
-
-

#2129 Common question asks
Can you remove a boat that has sunk?
-

We do not raise boats that have sunk. Call your insurer and a marine salvage company first, and if fuel is leaking or anyone is in danger, call the Coast Guard on VHF channel 16 or 911. Once the boat is afloat or on land, we can drain it, remove it and arrange its disposal.
-
-

#2127 Common question asks
What does boat removal and disposal include?
-

We look at photos and access, drain the fuel and oil, remove the batteries and the engine, move the boat on our trailer or with a flatbed or crane we arrange, take it to a recycling or disposal facility and handle the DMV paperwork. You get a written estimate before any work starts.

-

#2125 Common question asks
How long does a custom marine joinery project usually take?
-

It depends on the size of the job: a cabinet repair is much quicker than a full galley refit with new cabinets, varnish coats and installation. We give you the expected timeline with the written estimate.
-
-

#2123 Common question asks
Can you repair or upgrade existing boat cabinets instead of replacing them?
-

Yes, we can refinish, reinforce, reface, or modify existing cabinetry to improve durability, layout, and appearance without a full replacement when possible.
-
-

#2121 Common question asks
Do custom marine cabinets improve resale value?
-

Well-built cabinetry makes the interior more useful and better looking, which helps a boat show well when you sell. We cannot promise a higher sale price.
