Boat Refit and Modernization in Los Angeles and Long Beach
We bring older boats up to date with new lighting, a cleaner dash and modern systems. We do the work at your slip, dock or storage yard from Marina del Rey to Newport Beach, or at our San Pedro shop.
What the work covers
- Boat system refit and modernization: upgrades to engine systems, electronics and interiors on older boats.
- Dash panel redesign and switch upgrades: a clear helm layout with new switches and room for the gauges and displays you use.
- LED interior and underwater lighting retrofits: LED fixtures draw less power than older bulbs, which helps when you run on batteries at anchor.
For chartplotters, radar, fishfinders and autopilots, see marine electronics installation and audio upgrades.
Signs your boat is ready for a refit
- Switches that are cracked, faded or no longer labeled
- Blank plates and holes left from removed equipment
- Gauges that stick, fog up or no longer work
- Dim or failed cabin and cockpit lights
- Add-on wiring behind the dash that nobody can trace
- New electronics you want to fit, with no room left at the helm
Questions about boat refits
Can a refit be done in stages?
Yes. Lighting, the dash and other systems can be separate jobs. We agree each one with you before work starts.
Will new equipment work with my old wiring?
That depends on the age and condition of the wiring. We look at it when we plan the job, and we quote any wiring repair it needs before any work is done.
Book a visit: submit a ticket with the boat, where it is kept and what you would like to change, or call (562) 542-7296.

#1649 Common question asks
Is a full system refit worth it for older boats?
-

It depends on the boat. A refit makes sense when the hull and engine are sound and you plan to keep the boat: it can make an older boat safer, more reliable and more pleasant to use for much less than a new one. Refit costs rarely come back in full when you sell, so we look at the boat with you and quote each stage before you decide.

#1647 Common question asks
Can interior upgrades be done as part of the modernization process?
-

Yes. Interior upgrades can include LED lighting, modern switches, redesigned dash panels, USB charging points, cabin fans and refreshed seating for better comfort and functionality.
-
-

#1645 Common question asks
How does a system refit improve safety on board?
-

Modern wiring, circuit protection, updated navigation systems, alarms, and monitoring reduce the risk of electrical failure, overheating, and navigation errors, significantly improving onboard safety.
-
-

#1643 Common question asks
Can outdated marine electronics be integrated into a modern system?
-

In many cases, older electronics can be partially integrated, but for best performance and reliability we often recommend upgrading to modern chartplotters, digital switching, NMEA 2000 networks, and touchscreen helm controls.
-
-

#1641 Common question asks
What engine-related upgrades are commonly included in a refit?
-

Engine refits may include updated fuel systems, cooling components, alternators, lithium charging upgrades, digital engine monitoring, and improved ventilation to enhance performance and longevity.
-
-

#1639 Common question asks
Can you modernize my boat without replacing the engine?
-

Yes. Many refits focus on upgrading electronics, wiring, controls, lighting, and interior systems while keeping the existing engine, significantly improving usability and reliability without a full repower.
-
-

#1637 Common question asks
What does a full boat system refit and modernization include?
-

A complete refit may include engine upgrades, modern marine electronics, electrical system improvements, lighting upgrades, helm redesign, and interior modernization. The goal is to improve performance, safety, comfort, and reliability.

-

#1635 Common question asks
Does a dash panel redesign increase boat value?
-

It can help when you sell: a clean, modern helm with labeled switches makes a good impression on buyers. We cannot promise a higher sale price.
-
-

#1633 Common question asks
Will my new dash be labeled and easy to use?
-

Yes, all switches and controls are clearly labeled, logically grouped, and backlit if requested, making operation intuitive even at night or in rough conditions.
-
-

#1631 Common question asks
Can dash panel upgrades help fix electrical issues?
-

Yes. Behind an old dash we often find corroded wiring, overloaded circuits or poor connections. We show you what we found and quote the repair, and fix it once you approve.
