About this service

Boat System Refit and Modernization in Long Beach and San Pedro

We plan and carry out refits that bring an older boat's engine, electronics, power and interior up to date, at your slip, dock or storage yard from Marina del Rey to Newport Beach, or at our San Pedro shop.

What the work covers

  • Engine and drive: overdue service, new control cables and steering parts, or a boat engine rebuild for a worn engine.
  • Electronics: chartplotters, radar, fishfinders and autopilots, networked so they share data at the helm. See marine electronics installation and audio upgrades.
  • Power and wiring: batteries, charging and shore power sized for the new equipment, with clean, labeled wiring.
  • Helm and lighting: a redesigned dash with new switches, and LED lighting in the cabin and under the waterline. See boat refit and modernization.
  • Interior: seats and upholstery, flooring and cabin finishes. See boat renovation.

When a refit makes sense

  • You bought an older boat and want it brought up to date
  • Electronics that are dated, fail often or do not work together
  • Batteries that run flat during a night at anchor
  • Years of added wiring with no labels
  • Torn seats, tired flooring or a dated cabin

How a refit is planned

Before the first visit, gather the engine and electronics details, a list of known problems and photos of the areas you want to change. Decide what matters most: safety, performance, comfort or long-term value. We look at the boat, check the wiring and power supply new equipment will depend on, and agree the scope and order of work with you. Each stage is quoted before work starts.

Questions about boat refits

Should an older boat get a refit or a full restoration?

Often a planned refit in stages fits an older boat well. Listing everything that feels dated, from worn upholstery to old navigation gear, shows which jobs depend on each other and which can wait for a later season.

What should be done first?

Safety items and anything that keeps the boat from running come first. Then jobs that share an area go together, so new electronics and their wiring are done while the dash is open.

Book a visit: submit a ticket with the boat, where it is kept and your list of changes, or call (562) 542-7296.
