When do I need a fuel pump out service for my boat?

Fuel pump-out is recommended when fuel is contaminated, has water in it, is old or smells like varnish. It is also needed before a fuel tank is removed, repaired or replaced.

Can contaminated fuel damage my engine if not removed?

Yes, bad fuel can clog injectors, damage fuel pumps, cause hard starting, stalling, and lead to expensive engine repairs if left untreated.

Do you provide mobile fuel removal at the dock?

Yes, the service is mobile. With your marina's or boatyard's permission (some restrict fuel transfers at the slip), we pump out the fuel where the boat is, so it does not have to be moved. Each visit has a one-way trip fee by distance, listed on your written estimate.

Can you clean the fuel tank after pumping it out?

Yes, we can inspect and clean fuel tanks, remove sludge, and recommend filtration or polishing services before refilling with fresh fuel.

Is fuel pump out safe for diesel and gasoline boats?

Yes, when it is done with the right precautions. Gasoline vapor can explode, so gasoline is pumped with equipment made for it, grounded against static sparks, with the boat ventilated and no ignition sources nearby. Diesel is less volatile but is handled with the same care to prevent spills.

Does removing old fuel improve engine performance?

If bad fuel was the problem, yes. Fresh, clean fuel lets the engine start and run properly again and protects the injectors, pumps and fuel lines; a clogged filter or a damaged injector still needs its own repair.

Fuel Recovery

Bad Gas?
Don't Run It.

Running an engine on stale or contaminated fuel can damage your injectors, fuel pump and engine. We pump the bad fuel out at your boat and arrange its disposal.

Phase Separation

Modern ethanol fuel absorbs water from the air. Over time, phase separated fuel forms layers: gas on top, and a corrosive water/ethanol layer on the bottom that can stall the engine and damage the fuel system.

Static & Vapor Safety

Pumping gasoline is dangerous due to static electricity and fumes. We use pumps made for fuel transfer, ground the boat and the containers against static sparks, ventilate, and keep ignition sources away.

Disposal

You can't just dump 50 gallons of gas. We pump it into approved containers, and the disposal is done by a hauler or facility permitted to take waste fuel, which we work with or refer you to; their charge is listed on your estimate.

Site Prep

With the marina's permission, we secure the dock area, deploying spill containment booms and attaching static grounding cables to your vessel's fuel fill ground.

Access & Draw

We insert a flexible suction wand through the fuel sender port (for maximum removal) or the filler neck, reaching the very bottom of the tank.

Visual Check

We pump through a clear sight glass. You will physically see the transition from water/sludge to clear fuel (or confirm the entire tank is bad).

Hand-Off

The waste is sealed in approved containers. A hauler or facility permitted to take waste fuel takes it for recycling or disposal, and the disposal charge is listed on your written estimate.

Common Questions

Can you "polish" and save my gas?

No. Once gasoline has phase-separated (ethanol bond broken), it cannot be chemically restored. It must be removed and disposed of, so bad gas removal is the only option. Diesel, however, can often be polished and saved.

How do you get to the bottom?

We prefer to remove the fuel sender unit. This gives us a 2-inch opening directly into the tank, so we can drain it as fully as its baffles allow and draw water and debris off the tank floor.
