What is dockside breakdown assistance?

Dockside breakdown assistance means we come to your boat at the dock when something has failed, find the cause and, once you approve the written estimate, fix it on the spot when we can. A diagnosis is at least $300 for each engine and $300 for the electrical system, plus the trip fee for your harbor.

What types of boats do you help at the dock?

We work on powerboats, sailboats and yachts with gasoline or diesel engines, at the slip, dock or storage yard. If a job needs the boat out of the water, we tell you and plan it.

How quickly can you come to a breakdown at the dock?

Call us at (213) 693-0224: we fit urgent repairs in as soon as we can, Monday to Saturday, 8 AM to 6 PM, and tell you on the phone when we can be there, but we can't promise a set arrival time. The trip fee for your harbor applies. If the boat is taking on water or anyone is in danger, call the Coast Guard on VHF channel 16 or 911 first.

What types of repairs can be handled dockside?

We handle engine troubleshooting, electrical diagnostics, battery issues, fuel problems, steering repairs, and minor mechanical adjustments directly at the dock.

Do you provide on-site parts replacement?

Yes. We carry common parts for quick fixes at the dock; if a part has to be ordered, we come back to fit it, and each visit has a trip fee. Bigger jobs on trailer boats can be done at our San Pedro shop. We do not tow boats; if yours has to be moved on the water, call an on-water towing service.

Can dockside assistance prevent further damage to my boat?

It can. Finding the cause early often keeps a small problem, such as a corroded cable or a clogged filter, from turning into a costly repair.

The "Click" of Death

The most common cause of a no-start: a dead boat battery or corroded cables. We bring a jump pack to start the engine and test the battery and charging system to find out why it went flat; if you need a new battery, we quote it.

Fuel or Spark?

If it cranks but won't fire, it's usually fuel delivery or ignition. We carry common filters and have the tools to test fuel pressure and spark right at the dock.

Diagnose & Fix

When a safe fix can be made at the dock, we make it on the spot, once you approve the estimate. Bigger repairs are quoted and scheduled.

On-Site Check

The tech arrives at your slip, load-tests the battery and checks for basic fuel and ignition faults.

The Fix

Whether it's a jump pack, a new fuel filter or a replacement kill-switch lanyard, we aim for a quick, safe fix to get you running. A faulty kill switch is replaced, not disabled: a federal law that took effect in 2021 requires operators of most boats under 26 ft to use it.

If a permanent fix is needed, we tell you what we did, what still needs work and whether we recommend going out today, and we schedule the follow-up.
