About this service

Boat Polishing in Long Beach and San Pedro

We wash, compound, polish and wax boat hulls and cabin sides at your slip, dock or storage yard from Marina del Rey to Newport Beach, or at our San Pedro shop. The work removes oxidation and water spots, brings back the gloss, and leaves a coat of wax that helps protect the finish from sun and salt.

What the work covers

  • Wash: salt, grime and waterline stains cleaned off before any machine work.
  • Test section: a small area shows how deep the oxidation goes and which compound, polish and pad it needs.
  • Compounding: heavy, chalky oxidation cut back with rotary or dual-action polishers.
  • Polishing: the gloss brought back after compounding, or on its own for light dullness and water spots.
  • Wax or sealant: the last step, which adds a layer with UV protection.
  • Hand finishing: tight spots around cleats, rails and hardware.

Compounding removes a thin layer of gelcoat each time, so we use the lightest step that does the job. Related services include ceramic coating and oxidation removal and topside polishing and waxing for regular upkeep.

Signs your boat needs polishing

  • A chalky film comes off on your hand when you rub the hull
  • The color looks faded, especially on dark hulls and stripes
  • Water spots stay after washing
  • Water no longer beads on the surface
  • Yellow or brown stains along the waterline or bow

Questions about boat polishing

What is the difference between compounding, polishing and waxing?

Compounding cuts away oxidized gelcoat. Polishing refines the surface and brings the gloss back. Waxing seals the finished surface. Light dullness often needs only polish and wax, while heavy oxidation needs all three steps.

How often should a boat be waxed?

Wax wears off with sun and washing, so it needs to be renewed. How often depends on how much sun the boat gets and whether it is covered. When water stops beading on the hull, the wax is usually gone.

Will polishing remove scratches?

Light surface scratches often polish out. Scratches that go through the gelcoat need filling and color matching through our gelcoat color matching and scratch restoration service.

Book a visit: submit a ticket with the boat, its length, where it is kept and how the finish looks now, or call (213) 693-0224.
