What does a standard boat service include?

A routine service usually covers an engine inspection, oil and filter changes, a battery check, steering and drive maintenance and a general safety check, following your engine maker's schedule. We agree on the list with you and give you a written estimate before any work starts.

How often should I have my boat serviced?

We recommend at least once a year, or more frequently for boats used often or in harsh saltwater conditions, to maintain reliability and extend the engine’s life.

Do you service all types of boats, including inboard and outboard engines?

We work on powerboats, sailboats and fishing boats with outboard, sterndrive, inboard and diesel engines, including Mercury, MerCruiser, Yamaha, Volvo Penta, Indmar, Yanmar and Cummins. Tell us the make and model when you book so we can confirm before the visit.

Can you also check onboard electronics and navigation systems?

Yes. During a service visit we can check chartplotters, radar, autopilots and other electronics for power, wiring and connection faults. Any repair we find is quoted in writing before we do it.

Do you offer preventive maintenance recommendations?

Yes. After a service we tell you what we found and what is coming due, such as parts that are wearing and the next service on your maker's schedule. Boat care plan members also get a photo report after each checkup.

Can you fix problems you find during a service?

Yes. If we find a problem, we tell you and give you a written estimate. Small fixes can often be done on the same visit once you OK them; bigger repairs are scheduled as a follow-up.

Does regular boat service help maintain resale value?

It helps. A boat with regular service and dated receipts is easier to sell, because a buyer can see it was looked after. Keep every invoice with the boat's papers.

Boat Service in Long Beach and San Pedro

Boat service comes down to two kinds of visit: fixing what has stopped working, and the routine care that keeps the engine, its systems and the hull in shape between trips. We do both at your slip, dock or storage yard from Marina del Rey to Newport Beach, or at our San Pedro shop.

What the work covers

Engine repair: boat engine repair and outboard motor repair, starting with electrical and mechanical diagnostics to find the cause.
Gelcoat and fiberglass: chips, scratches and cosmetic cracks in gelcoat, and small non-structural fiberglass repairs. Structural damage is referred to a boatyard.
Routine care: engine servicing and inspections on your maker's schedule, propeller checks and shaft alignment, and bottom painting (antifouling). See boat maintenance and inspections for the options.
Overhauls: boat engine rebuilds when an outboard, inboard or diesel engine is worn out.

We work on Mercury, MerCruiser, Yamaha, Volvo Penta, Indmar, Yanmar and Cummins engines. Steering, bilge pumps, electrical faults and other jobs are on our boat repair page. Parts come with the repair and are quoted with the job.

Submit a ticket or call us. Tell us the make and model, the engine type, the hours since the last service and any symptoms you have noticed, so we can plan the visit. We agree on the work and a time, then do the job where the boat is kept or at our shop.
