Insurance Repair Estimates in Long Beach and San Pedro
When a boat is damaged in a collision, a storm or a sinking, we document the damage with photos and give you a written repair estimate to send to your insurer. The claim stays between you and your insurer: we are not an insurance adjuster or a marine surveyor, and your insurer may send its own. Once you give the go-ahead, we do the repair at your slip, dock or storage yard from Marina del Rey to Newport Beach, or at our San Pedro shop.
What the work covers
- Collision damage inspection and repair estimate: we inspect the damage after a collision or hard impact, document it with photos and write up the repair estimate.
- Restoration estimates after a sinking: after a boat has taken on water or sunk, and once it has been raised or pumped out, we estimate what it would take to restore it.
- Insurance and warranty repairs: the repair itself once you approve the estimate, covering engines, drives, electrical systems and cosmetic gelcoat. Structural hull damage is referred to a boatyard.
Your insurer decides what is covered under your policy. If the engine or equipment is still under the maker's warranty, check with the maker first: many pay only for work done by their own dealers, and we are not a dealer for any brand. Cosmetic hull damage often calls for fiberglass repair.
When to call
- After a collision, a grounding or a hard docking
- After the boat has taken on water or sunk at the slip
- After a storm has damaged the hull, deck or fittings
- When your insurer asks for a repair quote
Questions about insurance repair estimates
What should I do right after damage?
If the boat is taking on water or anyone is in danger, call the Coast Guard on VHF channel 16 or 911 first. When everyone is safe, keep more water out where you can, take photos before anything is moved and contact your insurer as your policy asks. Then submit a ticket so we can inspect the damage and write the estimate.
Can a boat that sank be restored?
Sometimes. It depends on how long it was under, the type of water and the systems on board. Engines and wiring that have been under salt water corrode quickly, so acting soon helps. A restoration estimate sets out what can be restored.
Book a visit: submit a ticket with the boat, where it is kept and what happened, or call (562) 542-7296.

#1200 Common question asks
How soon should I get a collision damage assessment after an accident?
-

As soon as you can, before the boat is used again. If the boat is taking on water or anyone is in danger, call the Coast Guard on VHF channel 16 or 911 first. A prompt inspection helps prevent further damage and gives you photos and an estimate for your insurer.

#1198 Common question asks
Do you work with marine surveyors or insurance adjusters?
-

We are mechanics, not surveyors or adjusters. You can share our photos, findings and written estimate with your insurer's surveyor or adjuster, and the claim stays between you and your insurer. If a marine survey is needed, we recommend an accredited marine surveyor.
-
-

#1196 Common question asks
Can you assess damage from docking or marina accidents?
-

Yes. We inspect damage from docking impacts, pilings, other boats and marina structures. Even a minor-looking impact can cause structural or alignment problems that should be checked.
-
-

#1194 Common question asks
How accurate are your collision repair quotes?
-

Our estimates are based on a hands-on inspection and our experience with similar repairs. Collision damage can hide behind panels or below the waterline; if we find more once work starts, we stop and give you a revised written estimate, and nothing extra is done without your OK.
-
-

#1192 Common question asks
Do you provide written repair estimates for insurance claims?
-

Yes. We document the damage with photos and write a detailed estimate with labor hours and a parts list for you to send to your insurer. We are a repair shop, not a marine surveyor or insurance adjuster; your insurer decides what it covers and may send its own surveyor.

-

#1190 Common question asks
Can you identify hidden damage after a boat collision?
-

Often, yes. We check where collision damage tends to hide: stringers, bulkheads, engine and shaft alignment, steering and the running gear. Underwater areas need the boat hauled out, and some damage only shows once parts are removed; anything found later gets a revised written estimate before any work.

-

#1188 Common question asks
What does a collision damage assessment include?
-

We inspect the hull, deck, transom, propulsion, steering and the structure we can reach, and document what we find with photos so the repair scope is clear. Areas below the waterline need the boat hauled out, and some damage only shows once parts are removed; if we find more later, you get a revised written estimate before we fix it.

-

#1186 Common question asks
Can an estimate help me decide whether to repair or sell the boat as-is?
-

Absolutely. A professional restoration estimate gives you a clear cost breakdown, helping you decide whether repair, resale, or insurance settlement is the most practical option.
-
-

#1184 Common question asks
Will you meet the recovery company, surveyor or insurance adjuster at the boat?
-

Yes. We are glad to meet the recovery company, your surveyor or the insurance adjuster at the boat and share our findings, photos and estimate. Your insurance company runs the claim and decides what it covers.
-
-

#1182 Common question asks
How long does it take to receive a restoration estimate?
-

We send the written estimate as soon as we can after the inspection and tell you when to expect it. Boats with flooded engines or electrical systems may need more diagnostic time first.
