Questions about boat paint repair

Is my boat painted or gelcoated?

Most fiberglass boats leave the factory with a gelcoat finish, and some are painted later. The repair is different for each, so we check the finish before quoting. For gelcoat chips and cracks, see fiberglass repair.

Why fix small chips right away?

A chip lets water reach the layer underneath. Over time that can lift the paint around it or, on metal parts, start corrosion. A small repair now is simpler than a larger one later.

Book a visit: submit a ticket with the boat, where it is kept and what the damage looks like, or call (562) 542-7296.

  1. #1088 Common question asks Dec 19, 2025

Can ceramic coating help preserve my boat’s resale value?

    1. Fryderyk Florczak answers Dec 19, 2025

Yes. Protecting the gelcoat from oxidation and fading keeps the boat looking newer, which can help its resale value.

  2. #1086 Common question asks Dec 19, 2025

Does ceramic coating make my boat easier to clean?

    1. Fryderyk Florczak answers Dec 19, 2025

Absolutely. The slick surface reduces dirt and salt buildup, making routine washing faster and easier while keeping your boat looking cleaner for longer.

  3. #1084 Common question asks Dec 19, 2025

Is ceramic coating better than traditional waxing?

    1. Fryderyk Florczak answers Dec 19, 2025

For most owners, yes: a ceramic coating lasts much longer than wax and resists UV, chemicals and salt better. Wax may last weeks to a few months, while a ceramic coating typically lasts 18-24 months with regular washing.

  4. #1082 Common question asks Dec 19, 2025

How long does a ceramic coating last on a boat?

    1. Fryderyk Florczak answers Dec 19, 2025

A marine ceramic coating typically lasts 18-24 months with regular washing, depending on sun exposure and use. Regular washing with a mild, pH-neutral boat soap helps it last.

  5. #1080 Common question asks Dec 19, 2025

What is marine ceramic coating and how does it work?

    1. Fryderyk Florczak answers Dec 19, 2025

Marine ceramic coating creates a protective layer that bonds to the gelcoat. It repels water, salt, and contaminants while providing UV protection and long-lasting shine.

  6. #1078 Common question asks Dec 19, 2025

How do you remove oxidation from a boat?

    1. Fryderyk Florczak answers Dec 19, 2025

We use multi-stage machine polishing combined with marine-grade compounds to safely remove oxidation. This restores gloss and prepares the surface for ceramic coating protection.

  7. #1076 Common question asks Dec 19, 2025

What causes oxidation on a boat’s gelcoat?

    1. Fryderyk Florczak answers Dec 19, 2025

Oxidation is caused by prolonged exposure to UV rays, saltwater, and air pollution. Over time, it dulls the gelcoat, fades color, and leaves a chalky surface that has to be compounded and polished off.

  8. #1074 Common question asks Dec 19, 2025

Can professional coating repair improve my yacht’s resale value?

    1. Fryderyk Florczak answers Dec 19, 2025

A sound, glossy finish helps a boat show well when you sell it and protects the laminate underneath. We cannot promise a higher sale price.

  9. #1072 Common question asks Dec 19, 2025

Do you use marine-grade and UV-resistant coatings?

    1. Fryderyk Florczak answers Dec 19, 2025

Yes. We use marine-grade, UV-resistant gelcoat, paint and clear coat made for salt water and the Southern California sun.

  10. #1070 Common question asks Dec 19, 2025

How long does a yacht coating repair usually take?

    1. Fryderyk Florczak answers Dec 19, 2025

Most coating repairs take from one day to several days, depending on the size of the damaged area and curing time. We give you a time estimate with the written quote.
