Trailer Wheel Bearing Repack & Hub Replacement
Don't Lose a Wheel
on the Freeway.
Saltwater immersion followed by highway heat destroys wheel bearings. We provide complete hub service, repacking, and replacement to ensure your boat arrives at the ramp safely.
The Physics of Failure
When you tow, your hubs get hot. When you dunk them in cold water at the ramp, the air inside contracts, creating a vacuum that sucks saltwater past the seals. This rusts the bearings instantly.
Hand-Packed
Using a grease gun on a "Bearing Buddy" isn't enough—it often blows out the rear seal. We disassemble the hub and hand-pack the bearings to ensure grease penetrates the roller cage.
Hub Replacement
If your bearings have seized and spun, the hub surface is destroyed. In these cases, we replace the entire hub assembly with a new, galvanized marine-grade unit for maximum safety.
Service Protocol.
Dirty work done with precision.
Jack & Strip
We lift the trailer, remove the wheels, and strip the old hubs. We clean all old, contaminated grease from the spindle.
Inspect Spindle
Crucial step: We check the axle spindle for scoring, pitting, or cracks. If the spindle is damaged, new bearings will fail immediately.
Pack & Seal
We pack the new tapered bearings with Lucas Marine grease, install new double-lip seals, and seat the races perfectly.
Torque & Spin
We tighten the castle nut to seat the bearing, back it off, and set the final preload so the wheel spins freely with zero play.
Roll Smooth.
Preventative maintenance prevents tow bills.
Parts We Trust.
Only marine-rated components. No automotive parts.
Common Questions
How often should I repack?
For saltwater use, we recommend an annual inspection and repack. At minimum, it should be done every 2 years or if you hear any grinding noises.
Can I just add grease?
Adding grease pushes out water, but it doesn't remove the sand or rust already inside. A full disassembly and cleaning is the only way to know your bearings are safe.
