Boat Trailer Repair in San Pedro and Long Beach

We repair boat trailers at your storage yard from Marina del Rey to Newport Beach, or at our San Pedro shop. Salt water is hard on a trailer, and the parts that go under at every launch wear first: bearings, hubs, lights and bunks.

What the work covers

Parts are quoted with the job. Before a long tow is a good time to have the whole trailer checked.

Signs your trailer needs work

  • A hub that is hot to the touch after a tow
  • Grinding, squealing or a wobble from a wheel
  • Grease on the inside of the rim or tire
  • Lights that flicker, work only some of the time or stay dark
  • Soft or split bunks, or carpet worn through to the wood
  • Brakes that grab, drag or do nothing

Questions about boat trailer repair

How often should trailer wheel bearings be repacked?

Follow the trailer or axle maker's interval. Trailers that go into salt water need closer attention, and bearings that have taken on water should be serviced before the next long tow.

Why do my trailer lights keep failing?

Salt water corrodes sockets, connectors and the ground connection, and hot bulbs can crack when they hit cold water. Sealed LED lights, fresh wiring and a solid ground are the usual fix. Unplugging the lights before you back down the ramp also helps.

Book a visit: submit a ticket with the trailer, the boat on it, where it is kept and what you have noticed, or call (562) 542-7296.

    #1242 Common question asks Dec 21, 2025

Does upgrading trailer lights improve towing safety?

    1. User avatar

Fryderyk Florczak answers Dec 21, 2025

Yes. Brighter, more reliable lights make your trailer easier for other drivers to see, especially at night and in poor weather, and working lights are required by law.

    #1240 Common question asks Dec 21, 2025

How long does LED trailer light rewiring usually take?

    1. User avatar

Fryderyk Florczak answers Dec 21, 2025

Most trailer rewiring and LED upgrades take 1-2 hours, depending on trailer size and wiring condition. We test every light before the trailer goes back on the road.

    #1238 Common question asks Dec 21, 2025

Can submersible LED lights prevent future corrosion issues?

    1. User avatar

Fryderyk Florczak answers Dec 21, 2025

They help. The sealed LED units keep water away from the electronics, and with sealed heat-shrink connections and a dedicated ground wire, corrosion and repeated light failures become much less common. Rinsing the trailer with fresh water after each launch still helps.

    #1236 Common question asks Dec 21, 2025

Are LED trailer lights legal and DOT-compliant?

    1. User avatar

Fryderyk Florczak answers Dec 21, 2025

Yes. We install LED lights marked DOT, which means the maker certifies they meet the federal lighting standard (FMVSS 108), and wire them so the tail, brake, turn, side-marker and license plate lights all work. Trailers 80 inches or wider also need clearance and identification lights; we check what your trailer needs for its size and tell you if anything is missing.

  5. User avatar

    #1234 Common question asks Dec 21, 2025

What is included in LED trailer light rewiring service?

    1. User avatar

Fryderyk Florczak answers Dec 21, 2025

The service includes removing old wiring, installing marine-grade sealed wiring, upgrading to LED submersible lights, securing proper grounds, and fully testing brake, turn, and running lights.

    #1232 Common question asks Dec 21, 2025

What problems are caused by old or damaged trailer wiring?

    1. User avatar

Fryderyk Florczak answers Dec 21, 2025

Worn wiring can cause flickering lights, brake light failures, blown fuses, or complete loss of lighting. Corrosion from saltwater is a common issue, which is why rewiring is often the best long-term solution.

    #1230 Common question asks Dec 21, 2025

Why should I upgrade my trailer lights to LED and submersible units?

    1. User avatar

Fryderyk Florczak answers Dec 21, 2025

LED submersible lights are brighter, more reliable, and resistant to water intrusion. They last much longer than traditional bulbs and significantly reduce electrical issues caused by frequent boat launching.

    #1228 Common question asks Dec 21, 2025

Does new bunk carpet improve launching and loading?

    1. User avatar

Fryderyk Florczak answers Dec 21, 2025

Absolutely. New carpet reduces friction, centers the boat properly, and makes launching and retrieval easier and safer—especially on steep or shallow ramps.

    #1226 Common question asks Dec 21, 2025

How long does trailer bunk board and carpet replacement take?

    1. User avatar

Fryderyk Florczak answers Dec 21, 2025

Most bunk and carpet replacements take 2 to 4 hours of labor, depending on trailer size and configuration. We set the bunks to the hull so the boat sits evenly and loads smoothly.

    #1224 Common question asks Dec 21, 2025

Can damaged bunk boards cause hull damage?

    1. User avatar

Fryderyk Florczak answers Dec 21, 2025

Yes. Exposed wood, rusted fasteners, or uneven bunks can scratch gelcoat, create pressure points, and even cause structural stress. Replacing worn bunks in time helps avoid costly hull repairs.
