Boat Engine Rebuilds in Long Beach and San Pedro
Breeze Marine Boat Service rebuilds worn gasoline and diesel boat engines, outboard and inboard. We are a licensed and insured marine service company, working at your slip, dock or storage yard from Marina del Rey to Newport Beach, or at our San Pedro shop.
What the work covers
A boat engine rebuild means taking the engine apart, inspecting and measuring each part, then machining or replacing what is worn. We renew rings, bearings, gaskets and seals, and replace pistons, valves or other parts worn past the maker's limits. Parts are quoted with the job.
- Gasoline outboards: an outboard engine rebuild for Mercury and Yamaha engines, or a powerhead swap with a remanufactured powerhead when the block is too far gone.
- Gasoline inboards and sterndrives: a gasoline inboard rebuild for MerCruiser, Indmar and Volvo Penta engines.
- Diesels: a diesel engine rebuild for Yanmar, Cummins and Volvo Penta, plus heat exchanger and aftercooler ultrasonic cleaning.
- Machine work: cylinder head machining and a valve job, and engine block boring and honing so new rings can seal.
Signs your engine may need a rebuild
- Low or uneven compression
- Blue smoke and oil use that keeps climbing
- Knocking from inside the engine
- Milky oil or water in the cylinders
- Lost power that a tune-up does not bring back
- Damage after overheating or running low on oil
Questions about engine rebuilds
How do you know a rebuild is needed?
We start with a check, including a compression test and a look at the oil, cooling and exhaust. Sometimes one repair, such as a valve job or a new exhaust riser, solves the problem. If the check shows wear across the engine, we quote the rebuild before any work is done.
What happens after a rebuild?
Follow the break-in steps your engine maker gives, which usually mean varying the speed, avoiding long runs at full throttle and changing the oil early. Watch the gauges closely on the first trips.
Book a visit: submit a ticket with the boat, where it is kept and what the engine is doing, or call (562) 542-7296.
