Boat Maintenance and Inspections in Los Angeles and Long Beach

We keep boats ready to run with monthly checks, seasonal maintenance, winterization and boat care plans. We do the work at your slip, dock or storage yard from Marina del Rey to Newport Beach, or at our San Pedro shop.

What the work covers

  • Monthly captain's check and systems run-up: we look the boat over, run the engines and onboard systems, and tell you what we find.
  • Seasonal boat maintenance and periodic inspections: routine service on your engine maker's schedule, such as oil, filters, impellers and belts, plus a look at hoses, steering and controls.
  • Winterization and spring commissioning: getting the boat ready for a long lay-up, then bringing it back into service.
  • Boat care plans (Basic, Premium and Pro+): checkups at your boat on a schedule, a photo report after each, no trip fee on any visit, and 10-20% off repair labor (by plan) and 10% off parts we install. Every plan starts with a full inspection, from $1,500 for a boat up to 25 ft with one engine.

We quote any repair we find during a check before any work is done. For dockside help, upgrades and local service, see our full boat service page.

When to schedule a check

  • The boat sits for weeks between trips
  • You are not sure when the oil, filters or impeller were last changed
  • The engine hours are close to your maker's service interval
  • A long trip or a new season is coming up
  • The boat will sit unused for the off-season

Questions about boat maintenance

Why check a boat that is not being used?

Boats that sit often develop problems of their own. Batteries run down, fuel ages, and rubber parts such as impellers can dry out or take a set. A regular run-up and check helps catch these before your next trip.

How often should a boat be serviced?

Follow your engine maker's interval. Most manufacturers set it by engine hours or by time, whichever comes first. We can plan seasonal service around that schedule.

Book a visit: submit a ticket with the boat, where it is kept and what it needs, or call (562) 542-7296.

Can Monthly Captain’s Checks be scheduled year-round?

Fryderyk Florczak answers Dec 25, 2025

Yes, we can visit every month, all year, on a schedule that suits your boat and marina. Each visit is billed at our $150 hourly labor rate (usually about an hour) plus the trip fee for your harbor. On a Basic, Premium or Pro+ care plan, members pay no trip fee on any visit and get 10, 15 or 20% off repair labor and 10% off parts we install.

Do I receive a report after each monthly check?

    1. User avatar

Fryderyk Florczak answers Dec 25, 2025

Can Monthly Captain’s Checks prevent costly repairs?

    1. User avatar

Fryderyk Florczak answers Dec 25, 2025

They can. Regular run-ups often catch weak batteries, leaks, overheating or fault codes early, before they turn into expensive breakdowns.

    #1655 Common question asks Dec 25, 2025

Do you actually start and run the engines during the check?

    1. User avatar

Fryderyk Florczak answers Dec 25, 2025

Yes, engines and generators are started and brought to operating temperature. This circulates fluids, charges batteries, and helps identify potential issues early.

    #1653 Common question asks Dec 25, 2025

What systems are checked during a monthly run-up?

    1. User avatar

Fryderyk Florczak answers Dec 25, 2025

We inspect and operate engines, generators, batteries, bilge pumps, electrical systems, steering, controls, and safety equipment to check that everything works as it should.

    #1651 Common question asks Dec 25, 2025

What is a Monthly Captain’s Check and why is it important?

    1. User avatar

Fryderyk Florczak answers Dec 25, 2025

A Monthly Captain’s Check is a routine inspection and operational run-up of your boat’s key systems. It helps prevent mechanical failures, battery issues, and system deterioration caused by inactivity.

    #1607 Common question asks Dec 25, 2025

Is seasonal boat maintenance worth the cost?

    1. User avatar

Fryderyk Florczak answers Dec 25, 2025

For most owners, yes. Regular maintenance lowers the risk of a major failure and helps the engine and systems last longer, and it usually costs less than a repair after a breakdown.

    #1605 Common question asks Dec 25, 2025

Do you provide written inspection reports?

    1. User avatar

Fryderyk Florczak answers Dec 25, 2025

Yes. After an inspection we explain what we found and give you a written estimate for any repairs, and care-plan checkups end with a photo report of the boat's condition.

  9. User avatar

    #1603 Common question asks Dec 25, 2025

Can seasonal maintenance improve fuel efficiency?

    1. User avatar

Fryderyk Florczak answers Dec 25, 2025

Yes. Properly maintained engines, clean filters, correct fluid levels, and optimized ignition systems help reduce fuel consumption and improve overall performance.

    #1601 Common question asks Dec 25, 2025

Are safety systems checked during periodic inspections?

    1. User avatar

Fryderyk Florczak answers Dec 25, 2025

Yes. We test the bilge pumps, float switches, high-water alarm and navigation lights, check the other alarms on board, and tell you about anything that needs attention.
