Exhaust Manifold and Riser Repair in Long Beach and San Pedro

We inspect, repair and replace exhaust manifolds, risers and elbows on inboard and sterndrive engines. We work at your slip, dock or storage yard from Marina del Rey to Newport Beach, or at our San Pedro shop.

What the work covers

On many marine engines, seawater runs through the exhaust manifolds and risers to cool them, then leaves with the exhaust. In salt water these parts corrode from the inside, so they can look fine and still be close to failing.

  • Manifolds and risers: exhaust manifold repair covers inspection, new gaskets, and repair or replacement of corroded manifolds and risers. Parts are quoted with the job.
  • Flappers and shutters: exhaust flapper and shutter service. These valves help stop water from running back into the engine, and they wear out with age.
  • Elbows and cooling: riser and elbow replacement and overheating diagnosis are part of our boat engine repair work.

Signs of a manifold or riser problem

  • Rust streaks or weeping at the manifold or riser joints
  • Overheating, or a hot spot on a manifold or riser
  • Water on the spark plugs, or milky oil
  • Rough running for the first minutes after a start
  • An exhaust smell in the engine compartment or cabin

Questions about exhaust manifolds and risers

How often should manifolds and risers be checked?

Follow your engine maker's interval. Boats kept in salt water often need a closer look, since corrosion inside cannot be seen from outside. A check at the annual service is a good habit.

Can a failed riser damage the engine?

Yes. Water that runs back through a failed riser, manifold or gasket can reach the cylinders and rust the valves and rings. Caught early, the fix may be new exhaust parts. Caught late, the engine may need an engine rebuild.

Book a visit: submit a ticket with the boat, where it is kept and what you are seeing, or call (562) 542-7296.
