Service Name: Stern Drive (Outdrive) Repair & Service
Protect Your Investment.
Below the Waterline.
Your stern drive lives in the harshest environment imaginable. Neglect leads to catastrophic gear failure and corrosion. We provide expert maintenance and repair for MerCruiser and Volvo Penta units to keep you moving.
Annual Lube & Service
The most critical service. We drain the gear lube and inspect it for water intrusion (milky appearance) or metal shavings. We refill with premium high-performance synthetic marine gear lubricant.
Corrosion Control
Saltwater eats aluminum. We inspect and replace sacrificial zinc/aluminum anodes. We also check the continuity of the Mercathode bonding system to prevent galvanic corrosion from dissolving your drive housing.
Bellows & Seals
Rubber bellows protect the U-joints and exhaust from water. If they crack, your boat sinks. We inspect these critical rubber boots and replace prop shaft seals that leak gear lube.
The Inspection Protocol.
Catching problems early saves thousands.
Pressure & Vacuum Test
Before adding oil, we pressure test the empty drive to 15 psi to ensure all seals (prop shaft, drive shaft, shift shaft) are holding. A drive that won't hold air won't hold oil.
U-Joint Inspection
We pull the drive to inspect the U-joints and gimbal bearing. Rust here indicates a bellows leak. We grease the fittings to ensure smooth operation.
Engine Alignment
Crucial for longevity. We use an alignment tool to ensure the engine coupler is perfectly aligned with the outdrive shaft, preventing premature coupler failure.
Prop & Skeg Check
We remove the propeller to check for fishing line behind the thrust washer (which destroys seals) and inspect the skeg for impact damage.
Built Tough.
Expert care for heavy machinery.

Common Questions
Why does my gear lube look milky?
Milky lube means water has gotten inside. This is a critical failure of a prop shaft or drive shaft seal. If ignored, the gears will rust and destroy the entire drive unit.
How often should bellows be replaced?
Manufacturers recommend every 5 years, but in saltwater environments, we often see them fail sooner. If they feel stiff or show dry-rot cracks, replace them immediately.
